How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Company is seeking an attorney to join the Brighthouse Legal Department to be part of a team that provides day-to-day support of investment advisory matters connected to the Brighthouse Funds registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. The Brighthouse Funds are offered through registered insurance company issued products.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support for all aspects of legal and regulatory matters for the Brighthouse Funds, including preparing and reviewing board materials for quarterly Funds’ Board of Trustees meetings;
  • Provide day-to-day legal support to Brighthouse Investment Advisers, a registered investment adviser.
  • Prepare and oversee the registration statements and prospectus supplements for the Brighthouse Funds;
  • Prepare and oversee the drafting of SEC filings relating to: sub-adviser changes (14C Information Statements), new portfolios, substitutions, and mergers/acquisitions and/or liquidations;
  • Provide advice regarding and implementation of new mutual fund related regulations; and
  • Review and advise on marketing material, producer training materials and communications related to the Brighthouse Funds.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Juris doctorate from an accredited law school; admitted to practice before a state bar association; in-depth experience with federal securities laws regulating mutual funds, preferably with a law firm;
  • Prior strong experience with registration of mutual funds on Form N-1A under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and Securities Act of 1933;
  • Experience with preparing materials and attending Board meetings for registered mutual funds;
  • Experience interacting with clients and managing or escalating questions or issues as appropriate;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; and
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience reviewing and advising on marketing materials related to mutual funds.
