How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Company is seeking an attorney to join the Brighthouse Legal Department to work on insurance company issued securities products that are registered or exempt under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and/or the Securities Act of 1933 as well as assist on investment advisory matters connected to the Brighthouse Funds registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and oversee filings of registration statements and prospectus supplements for variable, registered fixed and related annuity and life insurance products;
  • Provide advice to business partners regarding regulation of variable, registered fixed and other related annuity and life insurance products;
  • Provide advice, as needed, on regulatory exams and inquiries as well as administration related issues for insurance company issued securities products;
  • Provide legal support to the Brighthouse Funds, including preparing and reviewing quarterly Fund Board Materials;
  • Review and advise on marketing material, producer training materials and communications related to insurance company issued securities products and assist on materials related to the Brighthouse Funds; and
  • Work on other corporate legal matters as needed.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Juris doctorate from an accredited law school; admitted to practice before a state bar association; 5+ years of securities law experience, either with a law firm or in-house;
  • Experience with federal securities laws regulating insurance company issued securities products or mutual funds;
  • Prior experience with registration of insurance company issued products on Forms N-4, N-6, S-3 and/or mutual funds on Form N-1A under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and Securities Act of 1933;
  • Experience interacting with clients and managing or escalating questions or issues as appropriate;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; and
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving.
