How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Learning & Development Specialist Manager develops and conducts specialized training programs for employees while supporting the development of the L&D specialist team members focused on the hybrid aspect of our centralized L&D structure. The Learning & Development Specialist Manager is responsible for analyzing training needs as explained by the business, developing curriculum and delivering courses in a timely fashion. This role also has advisory, business partner and supervisory components to ensure the business is successfully supported by the team of L&D Specialists.


Work Location:

To protect the health and safety of our employees, our offices are closed until at least May 2021. When our offices reopen, the individual hired for this role will be based in our Charlotte, NC office.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Determines instructional methods to include but not limited to instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Conducts needs assessments/instructional analysis to ensure conformity with mission training objectives and develops training plans as needed
  • Selects or develops teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and reference
  • Conducts training sessions covering specified areas such as on-the-job training, refresher training, etc.
  • Leads in the development of training staff - L&D Specialists
  • Develops strong relationships with internal customers to develop course materials and receive feedback.
  • Manage L&D Specialist workload, capacity, and ensures skill set successfully supports Distribution and BHF required curriculum training calendar
  • Create and maintain project documentations/plans, track budget; coordinate and follow-up with presenters, attendees and vendors in SMART as needed
  • Provide input and outcome data on learning impact in reports to management and partners
  • Audit project plans and keep track of initiatives as needed
  • Strong partnership with HRBP’s and other HR Centers of Expertise to ensure visibility on work in flight, projects upcoming and cross-HR project alignment with L&D strategy

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Industry experience preferred with advanced education, credentials and/or licensing. Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) and Series 6 Topper is required within 120 days of hire date.
  • Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Demonstrated experience and success with complex and high visibility projects
  • Superior facilitation skills for effective classroom and virtually led training delivery
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey information effectively to a variety of audiences at all levels
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to plan, identify, coordinate and track critical activities, milestones and deliverables
  • Possesses a motivating approach and developmental mindset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of Articulate and Qualtrics
  • Knowledge of SuccessFactors LMS system capabilities
