How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Data & Analytics Engagement Management function is accountable for how Brighthouse Financial defines, disseminates, and utilizes the wealth of data that we collect about our products, customers, processes, and marketplace. The function is responsible for the management of the portfolio engagements to drive our strategic priorities and generate value through the use and application of data and analytics capabilities and solutions. Engagement Management works to integrate the varying data and analytics functions to deliver services and solutions covering varying operational, analytical, and compliance needs across the Company.

 

The Engagement Leader role will partner with business stakeholders from our IT Delivery teams and Client Solutions, Marketing and Distribution teams to own and define the Data & Analytics portfolio driving the management of priorities, roadmaps, and backlog, collaborate on data analysis, define data and report requirements, and coordinate all delivery activities across teams. They combine expertise in the end to end lifecycle of data from creation and sourcing through to consumption working closely with Data Strategy, Data Governance, Solutions Design & Delivery, Engineering, Business Intelligence, Advanced Analytics, and Data Science teams to deliver strategic data and analytic solutions. Scope of responsibilities include data analysis in support of business requirements development, collaborating with data governance to ensure standards, meta-data definition, and control processing is enabled to ensure quality and validity, data management, processing, and integration requirements are defined, as well as driving reporting, dashboards, scorecards, and other analytics requirements to solution.

 

Work Location:

To protect the health and safety of our employees, our offices are closed until at least mid-September 2021. When our offices reopen, the individual hired for this role will be based in our Charlotte, NC office or Morristown, NJ.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the development and management of the data & analytics portfolio for their respective functional stakeholders and partners including prioritization, features, roadmap and backlog of projects for new and ongoing initiatives, in conjunction with the overall Engagement Manager
  • Collaborates with both the business stakeholders and the delivery teams to define and communicate the data & analytics priorities and roadmap, pro-actively curating and managing the portfolio of initiatives, projects, & backlog
  • Develop a BI Roadmap and backlog of projects for a newly defined set of Business Intelligence applications (SAP Business Objects, Web Intelligence, Lumira, Crystal Reports, Analysis for Office / Analytics Cloud)
  • Collaborates both with business stakeholders and the delivery teams to define and communicate the BI roadmap
  • Advocates for the BI strategy and standards internally, and represents the customer in meetings with development teams
  • Own the development and management of reporting requirements, report build, testing and delivery.
  • Works with the Engagement Manager to assemble and drive quarterly portfolio and planning meetings in order to prepare the upcoming deliverables
  • Aligns the priorities, delivery, solution approach to data & analytics strategy and vision to ensuring standards are met and processes are followed.
  • Provides overall program management overseeing the execution of data & analytics projects that are typically large in scope, complexity, with matrixed stakeholders and delivery support
  • Represents the internal “customer” in meetings with functional and delivery teams for data & analytics
  • Maintains constant communications to provide transparency of projects and deliverables to Brighthouse senior leadership, Business & IT stakeholders, IT partners and peers, and internal data & analytics solution delivery teams to ensure all are informed of status, blockers, and risks
  • The Engagement Leader manages work intake, collects and analyzes project documentation and requirements, provides project load balancing and assignments across the delivery team, and monitors capacity to ensure resourcing needs are balanced across teams.
  • Works closely with the Transition Management Office, Architecture, Data Integration and Data Governance for example to understand key dependencies that impact data & analytics delivery and timelines
  • Defines, authors, and tracks Features according to the business and data & analytics roadmap (includes Architectural or technical analytics enablers and debt items)
  • Provides servant-leadership for a team(s) of consultants accountable for analytics requirements, development, and QA / testing
  • Own and drive sprint planning meetings; explain feature/story priorities and requirements to the Agile team
  • Define the sprint / iteration objectives
  • Ensure overall experience with data and analytics capabilities is good, meets SLAs, and performant

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Background in Client Solutions, Marketing and Distribution and finance processes and operations
  • 5+ years working in IT and a data warehouse and Data & Analytics organization implementing operational and strategic analytics, experience should include working knowledge or hands on development experience with commercial business intelligence tools like Microstrategy, SAP Business Objects Enterprise, Tableau, SAS, Qlik, etc.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of key concepts and best practices for building and operating relational databases including ETL/ELT and data modeling and architecture
  • Strong data analysis and data mining skills and solid SQL skills
  • Strong business acumen and analysis translate business needs into data & analytics solutions
  • Experience gathering and translating business analytics requirements into functional and technical specifications
  • Strong communicator, good negotiator, good business sense, decisive, trustworthy, proactive, flexible and open-minded
  • Able manage roadblocks and conflicts leading to resolution to keep the project on track
  • Able to achieve results in a matrix setting through stewardship, influence, motivation and change leadership
  • Skills required: Story writing, story splitting, prioritization, focus on real business need and objectives
  • Experience implementing data governance and data quality solutions a plus
  • Working knowledge of lean and agile values, principles and practices
  • Demonstrated work experience of agile/scrum methodology
  • Proficiency with a variety of agile project management tools (Rally, JIRA, TFS, etc.
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Scrum Master, Engagement Leader, and/or BA in an Agile development environment
  • Engagement Leader, Product Manager, and/or Scrum Master certification is a plus
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is a plus
