How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Risk Analyst role is designed to develop methods and capabilities within Risk Management, as well as assisting our partner organizations (Treasury, Actuarial, Finance and Investments) to address the complex reporting, monitoring and analysis of positions relative to the Risk Appetite Statement and consolidating information and analysis covering credit risk, liquidity risk, market risk and product risks. The role will liaise with other subject matter experts within Risk Management and the other partner organizations. The incumbent will support and collaborate with business leaders in other BHF teams.


The primary objective of the function is to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the risks impacting the strength of the Balance Sheet and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies being implemented.  The incumbent will be responsible for developing state-of-the-art risk metrics designed to support managing within the stated Risk Appetite.


The incumbent will need sufficient experience and be able to establish stature, and credibility in the organization (including Investments, Actuarial, Treasury and Finance) to provide the effective support and challenge.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build advanced analytical tools, including models, for use in measuring and monitoring exposures and enhancing understanding of risks and trends impacting the strength of the company
  • Guide the development and implementation of stress testing models
  • Engage and coordinate with business partners within the company on development of methods to manage risk more effectively
  • Guide the development of key risk metrics on Capital, Market and Liquidity risk management
  • Effectively communicate and accurately represent the company’s risk profile with all stakeholders, including regulators and rating agencies
  • Prepare and potentially deliver periodic reports to senior management
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies and provide effective support and challenge


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in risk management, including risk assessment and reporting of the overall risk profile and risk issues
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with stress testing scenario design and process
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience in working with a range of complex inputs
  • Advanced Experience in Financial Reporting and a proficient understanding of both GAAP and Statutory insurance balance sheet
  • Proficient understanding of regulatory requirements applicable to life insurance companies
  • Prior experience in working with Aladdin, or other Investment data systems a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or quantitative science preferred
  • CFA or FRM preferred
  • Proficient Knowledge of financial services operations, insurance and annuity products, investments
  • Effective interpersonal. communication and people/project management skills
  • A team player who has the collaborative skills to work within or manage project teams
