How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

Reporting directly to the Head of Capital Strategy and Liquidity Risk, this position is responsible for supporting cross- functional efforts to manage the company’s capital strategy through statutory, rating agency and economic capital frameworks and proactively mitigate risks related to capital requirements. This role will also support the liquidity risk function.


Work Location:

To protect the health and safety of our employees, our offices are closed until at least May 2021. When our offices reopen, the individual hired for this role will be based in our Charlotte, NC office or can continue to work remotely with some in-office requirement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and refinement of capital models that produce integrated and just-in-time calculations and projections of capital positions
  • Lead in reporting and analysis of models to inform on current and projected capital positions from S&P, Moody’s, Fitch, and AM Best, as well as ALIRT
  • Create and deliver proposals in collaboration with key internal stakeholders to optimize capital and minimize risk to support the company’s business strategy and remain compliant with various capital requirements
  • Assist in the company’s statutory, GAAP, and economic capital reporting efforts
  • Assist in the analysis and implementation of capital optimization strategies
  • Perform the calculation of statutory, GAAP, and economic capital measurements for accounting, treasury, and risk stakeholders
  • Support reporting and communication efforts related to statutory, GAAP, and economic capital considerations to stakeholders, including senior management, regulators, auditors, and rating agencies
  • Understand and support the communication of the implications of all significant transactions from a statutory, GAAP, and economic capital framework
  • Support financial and regulatory reporting activities related to statutory, GAAP, and economic capital usage
  • Assist in reporting activities to the Board of Directors and senior management related to capital strategy
  • Support liquidity risk team with related stress models and reporting requirements


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in the areas of corporate finance, capital strategy and financial modeling within large financial institutions
  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline required; MBA, CPA, FSA and/or CFA preferred
  • Strong understanding of statutory, GAAP, and economic capital frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing large, complex Excel models
  • Experience creating Power Points and presenting to management
  • Experience with capital management, detailed analyses, and coordination with senior leaders on implementing actions to take advantage of opportunities or mitigate economic risks identified
  • Industry leading knowledge of financial markets and economics including derivatives and hedging strategies
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and management skills with the ability to persuade, negotiate, and arbitrate to influence others to effect change and achieve desired results
  • Demonstrated ability to consider multiple views while making business decisions
