How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

This position will be part of a team responsible for the financial reporting of Deferred Annuity products in the Annuity Valuation area. In general, this position will be responsible for analyzing the results of valuation calculations, assisting in the Prophet conversion efforts, and delivering required and ad-hoc reporting to various stakeholders.  The position will be located in either Convent Station, NJ or Charlotte, NC (currently remote).

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report results of valuation GAAP calculations. Verify and test reserve calculations.
  • Perform monthly reserve (DAC and SOP) analysis to verify calculations. Explain reserve variances and interpret financial trends. 
  • Assist in the conversion of the PolySystems valuation models into Prophet models, including data analysis and model testing.
  • Modify validation models to assist various ad-hoc analyses.
  • Answer ad-hoc questions pertaining to the reserves.
  • Respond to requests from regulators, auditors, and accountants.
  • Contribute in the on-going transition from PolySystems to Prophet, including building financial reports from Prophet data.
  • Assist in developing models for Long Duration Targeted Improvements (LDTI) for DAC and SOP.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or a related discipline. 
  • Pre-ASA, passed at least 2 actuarial exams.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and VBA. 
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills.
  • Self-starter, results-driven, customer-focused and strong team player/builder.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to grasp new concepts quickly.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with actuarial concepts including life contingencies a plus.
  • Insurance industry experience a plus.
