How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Asset Management Group of Brighthouse Financial is responsible for the strategic and tactical asset allocation for the Company’s approximately $100 billion investment portfolio.  The commercial mortgage/structured finance portfolio manager will be primarily responsible for managing commercial mortgage-related and structured finance assets of the Company.  This person will be an active participant in all aspects of the asset management process, including asset allocation, understanding and managing key market risks and opportunities, investment manager selection and oversight and reporting performance results. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of the fundamental and relative value view of the mortgage-related sectors, in both loan and securities form.
  • Responsible for managing the overall risk and performance of the commercial mortgage/structured finance related portfolios.  These would include Commercial Mortgage Loans, Agricultural Loans, Residential Mortgage Loans, Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities, Residential Mortgage Backed Securities and Asset-Backed Securities.
  • Active participant in developing the overall investment strategy for the investment portfolio.
  • Responsible for defining and implementing performance benchmarks and risk measures for the various portfolios.
  • Where applicable, work with managers in selecting appropriate mortgage-related assets for the portfolios.
  • Help select, monitor and benchmark external asset managers.
  • Manage relationships with external managers including enforcing adherence to portfolio guidelines and ensuring managers act in accordance with the needs and goals of the portfolio.
  • Communicate risk, return and performance to all stakeholders.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10-15 years of experience managing mortgage-related asset portfolios.
  • Solid mortgage underwriting experience, ideally at a balance sheet or CMBS platform lender; experience with mortgage related securities and portfolios
  • Experience managing and interacting with third party asset managers.
  • Strong quantitative analysis and research skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collegial environment and train/mentor junior staff members
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Bloomberg, and Blackrock Aladdin.
  • MBA and/or CFA preferred.
