How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

Drive the definition and end-to-end design of the Enterprise Data Management framework encompassing data management and integration, APIs and microservices, managed file transfers, and enterprise reference and master data across Brighthouse Financial. This role will work with Enterprise Architecture and our System Integration partners to define and manage the implementation of foundational capabilities, platform architecture frameworks, software & hardware technologies, as well as on-premise and cloud technologies to deliver and realize solutions in alignment with Brighthouse Financials’ Data Management strategy.

 

Key Objectives:

  • Drive the design and engineering of the Enterprise Data Management Framework in alignment with strategic architecture and roadmaps.
  • Develop and apply best practices for designing and implementing resilient data solutions.
  • Advise and guide the implementation of integration solutions to ensure long term stability and reliability in alignment with a best in cost approaches and practices.
  • Provide thought leadership to drive our Data Solutions Delivery as a strategic advantage and ensure the continuous realization of value.
  • Act as an advisor for the overall Chief Data Officer’s Team to help drive our data and analytics investments, inform of future innovations, and provide evaluations, in conjunction with Enterprise Architecture, of new capabilities, tools, and technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shape the formation of the Data Solutions function responsible for the design, deliver, and operational end to end data and analytics solutions; from consultation through operations. Partner with senior leadership on the continuing transformation into a data and analytics driven organization.
  • Own, perform, and deliver data modeling, including defining conceptual, logical, and physical models, cross application data modeling in conjunction with target state data architecture
  • Lead a team of solution, platform, and framework designers and data modelers across multiple concurrent engagements.
  • Work with Enterprise Data Governance, and Enterprise Architecture to define standards for data modeling and information architecture for all BHF solutions.
  • Provide end to end design integration from development, functional and non-functional requirements in close coordination with infrastructure, operations, security, transformation office, and vendor partners to ensure a wholly aligned and coordinated delivery of the new Enterprise Data Management Framework.
  • Drive the design of the Enterprise Data Management framework in collaboration with BHF teams and Vendor partners.
  • Ensure end to end platform delivery consistency, integrity, and reliability.
  • Develop the design the data integration framework as well as enabling services such as a client information hub, contact and preference management centers, as well as operationalizing data optimization and management solutions.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Engineering, and Vendors to understand structural requirements and define standards for how data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed across the organization.
    • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture on L1 and L2 design.
    • Own and drive development of L3 data and analytics solutions design.
    • Develop, review the design and implantation of all new and active data and analytics solutions.
    • Partner with architecture and engineering to create a standards for service levels, data integration, standardization, and consumption to ensure consistent use of information across partner organizations.
    • Continually assess new and existing solutions to harden, enhance, and improve overall resilience.
    • Evaluate, critique and provide input to data/analytics tools and technology strategy.
    • Evaluate new industry trends for application within BHF including engaging with Enterprise Architecture to assess new tools and technologies, review vendor offerings, and co—develop and execute proof of concepts to prove out new capabilities against BHF Requirements.
  • Advise on tool usage, architecture options, risks, costs, system impacts, and technology priorities.
  • Provides deep data design expertise across structured and semi-structured approaches using varying techniques or methodologies.
  • Responsible for working closely with technology partners to continuously evaluate, evolve, and drive the investment in the overall strategic capabilities, architecture, infrastructure, tools and roadmap for enabling a strong data organization.
  • Leads and drives data solution engagements in alignment with general enterprise architecture strategy and standards.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of resources consisting of employees and contracted support to delivery design and modeling services.
  • Provide coaching, set development plans, and performance management for associates and the Design and Modeling team.
  • Develop and manage resourcing capacity and plans against demand forecasts.
  • Provide input to prioritize key initiatives, systems level priorities, risks and issues.
  • Work with a mix of resources across BHF, Systems Integration, and Platform vendor partners, and other programs and ensure teams have appropriate support to meet goals and ensure that project risks are identified, mitigated and communicated to stakeholders
  • Address and mitigate open security and risk items in conjunction with audit, compliance, and enterprise security.
  • Manage strategic prioritization and platform development roadmaps.
  • Identify structural and process improvement opportunities, overseeing the development and implementation of best practices for modern development principles and methodologies.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and coaching to less experienced professionals.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

This individual will be driving the design of our foundational data management capabilities and will require having a background in the design and development of large-scale data and analytics frameworks.

  • Proven track record in designing and implementing operational databases and data stores, data warehousing, reporting, analytics platforms, tools, and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and drive the design of large, complex, multi-disciplinary systems implementation projects.
  • Strong foundational knowledge and experience with peta-scale data systems supporting large consumer-facing websites.
  • Broad and deep understanding of data technologies and their applied usage – These include enterprise data platforms (SAP HANA/BDS, Teradata), No SQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB, HBase), DBMS (SQL Server, Oracle), ETL (Informatica, Pentaho), Reporting (Business Objects, Tableau, MicroStrategy, etc.), performance tuning for large-scale computing clusters (Spark, Hadoop), OS (Linux, Windows Solaris), and languages (Java, Python, Scala, C++).
  • Familiarity with a range of data management, Business Intelligence approaches and the latest, tools, approaches, techniques, and methodologies in data and analytics development management.
  • Deep understanding and appreciation for both business and technology components of information management in insurance and financial services industry.
