How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Senior Actuarial Associate of the Annuity Valuation Team will provide project support to help streamline and drive system conversion of the Structured Index Annuity (SIA) product. This project will allow Brighthouse to greatly reduce dependencies on outside sources for Valuation systems and is an essential initiative for the company.  In addition, this role will support SIA statutory financial reporting, which includes but not limited to supporting STAT quarter close, analyzing reserve change, and delivering regular and ad-hoc requests to various stakeholders (accounting, finance, reinsurance, audit, etc.).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Structured Index Annuity system conversion project
  • Work on the new SIA Prophet statutory model to support quarter close – production run, attribution and sensitivity analysis, statutory reserve aggregation calculation with Variable Annuity, etc.
  • Collaborate with pricing team on launching new SIA products
  • Analyze and test data for different streams of the project – admin data, valuation model input and output, reporting – using Excel, Access, and database tools like Alteryx
  • Research and gain familiarity with relevant product features and actuarial guidelines
  • Collaborate with various teams including – Model Development, VA ALM, Annuity Product, IT
  • Support emerging projects such as data system conversions and updating of processes and models for regulatory and accounting changes
  • Support Variable Annuity month close work
  • Perform monthly reserve analysis to validate reserve changes, explain reserve changes and interpret financial trends
  • Ad-hoc requests and business partnering with key stakeholders (accounting, finance, reinsurance, tax, audit, etc.)

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Actuarial Science
  • 3+ years of actuarial experience required
  • ASA designation required
  • Annuity experience preferred
  • Experience with FIS Prophet preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to work with others in a team environment

  • Compensation: Base salary ranging from $88,000 to $110,000 plus competitive performance-based incentives determined by company and individual results.
